May 1, 1988 Kendrick Frazier Editor The Skeptical Enquirer 3025 Palo Alto Dr, N E Albuqueque, NM 87111 Dear sirs: In light of the unsuccessful respondents to Mr. Randi's offer of $10,000 to date for a provably genuine paranormal ability, I suggest that CSICOP enhance this offer by formally supporting it and increasing the monetary amount. I propose that individuals and possibly corporate entities pledge money to a fund that will be awarded to a person or group of people who can demostrate paranormal abilities as per Mr. Randi's "controlled conditions." A reasonable goal is to bring the fund to $1,000,000. Additionally, should any applicant feel that monetary gains would go against his nature, he may choose instead to have the money donated to the charity of his choice (in the same spirit that the New Zealand Skeptics have offered their $10,000 prize). I feel that the hesitation that a limited sum of $10,000 brings to a genuine psychic would be more than offset by a $1,000,000 sum, especially if he has the option to donate it to a worthy cause (including, of course, institutions for paranormal research). To show that this offer could become a reality, I will personnally pledge $1,000, payable upon conditions established by CSICOP as constituting scientific proof of psychic ability. If other interested individuals will make similar pledges, I feel we could easily reach the goal of $1,000,000. Sincerely, David R. Tribble --- May 9, 1988 Mr. David R. Tribble Dear Mr. Tribble, Thank you for your letter and kind offer. It will be tabled at the next meeting of our Executive Council.
